I wrote this letter to the doctors and the staff at Akron Childrens I thought I would share it with all of you!Hello, and Merry Christmas to all the PICU doctors: Dr. Tirodker, Dr. Windorff, Dr. Bingham , Dr. Pope, Dr. Potts, all the PICU nurse practitioners: Leslie, Melanie, Beth, and Anne Marie.
In the Neurology Department: Dr. TK, Dr. Roge Hudgens and Holly
In the surgery department: Dr. MarkNelson , and Dr. Perry
In the social work department: Lori and Kristen and Mellissa, and The Palliative of Care Team, Dr. Dingman, and of course all of Bryce’s PICU nurses.
During the holiday season we think of presents as what we receive, but thanks to all the Drs and PICU team that has taken care of our son Bryce Fricker since November 18th, my husband and I get to hold our sweet baby boy as the only GIFT a parent could want for Christmas .
We cannot begin to thank you enough for the knowledge, the love and care you have given Bryce over the past month or so, We all know that Bryce was not doing well over a month ago, and now he is on the road to recovery. As a family this was the hardest thing a family could go through with a newborn, but with the encouragement, and care the PICU team has given our family is unremarkable. Thank you for all the times you took time out of your day to help us understand what is going on, or the times you told us the game plan good or bad, and provided support and took time to talk and explain things to us.
Thank you to the surgical team Dr Hudgens, Holly, Dr Perry, and Dr Nelson for your ability to help Bryce through your surgical procedures to enable him to advance as a infant. Thank you for taking the time to sit down and talk to our family, and be on the same page for Bryce to have what he needs.
Also I would like to thank Lori and Kristen Mellissa Dr. Dingamen, and the Palliative Care Team for their support during this difficult time. We can not tell you how much we appreciate you just lending an ear to listen, and advice while we were going through this journey.
Last but not least I would like to thank the PICU team of nurses, who were my husband and I’s rock throughout Bryce’s journey each one of you saw us at our worst, and were a ear to listen, you empathized and you showed compassion for our family. Our nurses also saw us at our best when Bryce improved you were there to encourage and smile with us.
But most importantly you TOOK care of Bryce you gave him the best care any baby could receive. I truly can’t tell you how hard it is to have someone else take care of your three week old baby, in my mind it should have been me but, it was the PICU team of day time nurses who gave us strength each and every day. A special thank you so much to Taryn, Colleen C, Colleen, Josh, Cami, Stephanie, Lydia, Carrie C, Sam K, Kelly, Kari B for the extra mile you took with Bryce and with our family during the day.
It is so hard after a long day to go and sleep, but the many nights I had to do this I did it with the confidence that the special night time nurses who took care of Bryce made me feel confident, and I really learned to trust someone at night with our Bryce, thank you for doing that it is the hardest thing to do when you are a new mom. Thank you so much to all the night nurses, and a extra special thank you to Melissa from our first night, Danielle, Angela, Amy, Laura, Jamie, and Allyson for all the extra care and love you gave to Bryce as well as answering our nightly phone calls.
I know we are just another family that will pass through the PICU but I just want you all to know how much we appreciate all you have done we will never forget the PICU team.
I also received a card from someone who has been involved with Bryce stating “ Samantha Joel and Bryce, Anyone can give up, it’s the easiest thing in the world to do but to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart that’s true strength” that meant the world to us it really did Thank you!
Merry Christmas to all the PICU Team you have given us the best gift of all our sweet Brycie bear on his road to recovery!
Thanks again Samantha Joel and Bryce Fricker
